In Imo, troops detain the founder of IPOB — DHQ
On Thursday, the Military High Command declared that Pius Iguh, a terrorist leader who is alleged to be the founder of the illegal Indigenous People of Biafran (IPOB) and its security wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), would be arrested immediately.
While providing defense correspondents with an update on the military operations by the Nigerian Armed Forces troops and other security agencies at the various theaters of operations throughout the Federation against insurgency activities as of October 24 of this year, Major Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defense Media Operations, made this announcement in Abuja.
He claimed that during a sting operation, Forward troops apprehended the suspect at a location in Imo State.
“Across the various theaters of operation, troops continue to deepen operational successes,” he said. For example, an IPOB terrorist leader was arrested as a result of a sting operation carried out by forces at FOB Orsu in the South East theater.

Buba, forces at FOB Amaruku also carried out a raid that led to the capture of Emmanuel Onwugu, another IPOB terrorist commander, who was apprehended in Abia State’s Mbano Local Government Area.
In a related development, he said, troops and security agents captured Ifeanyi Rock, a well-known cult leader, in a joint sting operation.
He clarified that the suspect was taken into custody in Arochukwu, Abia State, along with ten of his fighters.
The DDMO also revealed that 135 people were apprehended and troops neutralized 140 people during the reviewed week.
He said, “In the South, troops denied the oil theft of the calculated amount of one billion seven hundred and fifty-one million eight hundred and eighty-six thousand five hundred and fifty Naira (N1,751,886,550.00) only. Troops also arrested 18 oil theft offenders and freed 76 hostages who had been kidnapped.”
Additionally, troops found 3,254 different types of ammunition and 241 different types of weapons. The following is the breakdown: 141 AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, one PKT rifle, seventeen fabricated rifles, twenty-six Dane guns, thirteen pump action guns, four locally manufactured handguns, one Barreta handgun, two bayonets.
The remaining items include 2,016 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 970 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 33 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm ammunition, 76 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 113 live cartridges, two Baofeng radios, three cars, thirty-one motorcycles, eighteen cell phones, and a total of N79,052,150.00 and 19$ alone.According to him, the forces in the Niger Delta region found and demolished 47 illicit refining installations, 41 boats, 70 drums, 22 storage tanks, 19 dugout pits, and 33 crude oil cooking furnaces.
In addition, he said, “13 speedboats, one tricycle, four motorcycles, and three vehicles are among the other items recovered.” 557,210 liters of illegally refined AGO and 1,122,710 liters of stolen crude oil were found by the troops.
