19-year-old and her Mother shot dead in South Africa
Lusanda Coboza, a 40-year-old woman from South Africa, and her 19-year-old daughter, Anelisa Hailie-Jade Coboza, were tragically shot and killed in their home in Sakhasonke Village, Walmer Location, Gqeberha.

This information was shared by the advocacy group Women for Change in a statement on Monday, May 12, 2025. The incident took place on May 1, 2025, and their funeral was held on Saturday, May 10, in Soweto.
According to the police, officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Walmer Location. Upon arrival, they found Hailie-Jade and her mother with multiple gunshot wounds.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the suspects fled, four men aged between 28 and 46 were arrested shortly after the tragic murders. The police are currently investigating charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Hailie-Jade was a Grade 12 student at Collegiate Girls High School in Gqeberha. The advocacy group expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are heartbroken by the loss of such beautiful souls. Another mother and daughter have been murdered. How many more must die before Gender-Based Violence and Femicide are declared a National Disaster?”
