The arrest was part of a coordinated nationwide crackdown that saw the seizure of a total of 3.4 tonnes of various illegal drugs across five states.

According to the NDLEA, Prophet Adefolusho had been on the run for months. He was finally apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, after operatives waited for him outside his church in Okun Ajah, Lekki, until his Sunday service concluded. The moment he stepped out, he was arrested.

The Pastor’s Alleged Crimes

The NDLEA’s investigation linked the pastor to two previous seizures of a potent strain of cannabis known as “Ghana Loud.” The first was a 200kg haul at Okun Ajah beach in June, and the second was a 700kg consignment found in his delivery van in July. The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the pastor had twice evaded arrest and fled to Ghana. In his statement, he confessed to smuggling the drugs from Ghana into Nigeria via waterways.

A Wave of Raids Across Nigeria

The pastor’s arrest was just one part of a larger, sweeping operation. The NDLEA also carried out successful raids in other states:

More Than Just Arrests: The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA)

The NDLEA’s efforts are not just focused on enforcement. The agency also continued its “War Against Drug Abuse” (WADA) campaign, conducting sensitization drives across the country. In the past week alone, they gave lectures at schools in Oyo and Kano, and even to officers of the Nigerian Army in Yobe State. They also met with key community leaders to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for their hard work and urged them to continue this balanced approach of strong enforcement and public advocacy. This dual strategy aims to both cut off the supply of illegal drugs and reduce the demand for them within the community.
