No Boko Haram Arrests in Lagos – Police
The recent assertion by the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) that it arrested several Boko Haram suspects in Lagos State was dismissed recently by the Lagos State Police Command.
On Thursday, Kumar Sanda, the Lagos commandant of the CJTF, said thousands had been arrested as suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram in the city.

“If I should mention the number of Boko Haram members we have arrested in Lagos State, people will not believe it. But we have arrested thousands,” he was quoted.
“Truth is, the Command officially discounts the said report as false, malicious, and intended to incite fear and panic among residents,” said a statement released late Thursday.
It indicated that not only has there been no verified sighting or confirmed arrest of Boko Haram operatives in Lagos, the presence of such a group is fictitious.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who signed the statement, confirmed the formal probe ordered on the claims by the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, to unearth the source and motive behind the allegations.

Public safety and vigilance from the citizens are other places emphasized in the commitment by the Command.
“Further, the leaders, operators, and drivers in the mentioned trailer park communities have clearly informed the police that elements of Boko Haram have not been seen in those localities.
“However, the command deployed surveillance police detectives, the State Intelligence Department, and other formations of the Force to the mentioned places for purpose of verification of the claim. No one could confirm the presence of such a group as is reported in the report throughout Lagos State,” said the police.
The command then told the residents to ignore the report because it is false and unfortunate; nevertheless, it should not be taken seriously.

“The public in Lagos State is encouraged by the Commissioner of Police to transact their affairs and other livelihoods without fear or apprehension.
“The media are urged not to allow the using of their very esteemed publications for the sake of inciting fake news and, indeed, outright fabrications that can jeopardize the peace and tranquility being enjoyed in Lagos State.
“The Lagos State Police Command reassures and will continue to assure safety for Lagosians and will indeed not be distracted from ensuring adequate security for all Lagosians and the ultimate protection of life and property in the state,” he said.
