Police Arraign Suspect Over Bumpa Co-Founder’s Death
Arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command is Abiola Odutayo for the death of the co-founder of Bumpa, popularly known as Teejay. The deceased is known as Adetunji Opayele.
The police confirmed that it arraigned Odutayo on the 12th of March, 2025 at Court 1, Tinubu after her discharge from the hospital. Careless and negligent driving on a public highway, resulting in the death of Opayele, is the charge for which she is taken to court.

The public outcry has been so loud since the event that occurred on March 4, 2025-the petition against the incident already has more than 35,000 signatories. Even so, a larger number called for more serious charges such as manslaughter instead of mere reckless driving.

This development was confirmed by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on X, formerly Twitter: “We #LagosPoliceNG acknowledge the public concern regarding the tragic accident that claimed the life of Adetunji Opayele (Teejay) on March 4, 2025. We express our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all affected by this loss.

“We can confirm that following a detailed investigation, Abiola Odutayo ‘f’ was arraigned in Court 1, Tinubu on March 12, 2025, after she was discharged from hospital for driving on a ‘public highway recklessly and carelessly without due care and attention to other road users and caus[ing] the death of one Tunji Opayele ‘m’ aged 32 and thereby committed an offence…’

“The court granted her bail and adjourned the case until April 16, 2025. The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to transparency, fairness, and justice.”

But even more concerning has been the outcry about the event, which saw the driver, Biola Adams-Odutayo, allegedly refuse to assist the grievously injured Teejay, fearing for what such help could do to her car. Eyewitnesses recounted how bystanders struggled for hours to try to get medical attention-only to find that no one was willing to provide it at different hospitals. For meantime, Opayele was declared dead after hours of unsuccessful attempts to get emergency treatment.

Can you imagine, you knocked down someone and you are complaining about car stain instead of helping the victim, this is the height of heartlessness, I hope justice is served, this one that they have already granted her bail.
For Heavens sake, when would Nigerian hospitals ever gonna right this despicable wrong they always perpetuate. Can’t a law promulgated to check this menace. How can our hospitals be refusing treatment to critically wounded persons, I just don’t get it.
She will use that small round thing God gave her to escape the law/punishment directly or indirectly.
I am confused, she hit the person, causing the accident and still refused to to give help? That her car will be stained? I am really confused honestly.
