According to the police’s initial investigation, Maryam Ibrahim, the baby’s mother, had left her infant son in her room while she went to the toilet.

She returned to find her co-wife, Zaliha, cradling the baby, who had been injured to his neck and had froth leaking from his mouth. After being taken to the hospital right away, the doctor declared the infant dead.

During questioning, the woman confessed to the killing and disclosed that she had plotted with Lawal Muhammad, the husband’s younger brother, who gave her the acid she used to kill the baby, according to the police.
