A leadership crisis has reportedly broken out in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa state following an argument on who should serve as the party’s state chairman.

Two groups led by Sadiq Dasin and Saidu Komsiri have emerged as a result of the dispute, which started soon after the party was founded in the state.

Former secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and national vice-chairman of the ADC, Babachir Lawal, stated that his side, led by Dasin, continues to be the true leadership of the party in the state.

Any other organisation claiming to be in charge of the Adamawa ADC is “null and void,” according to Lawal.

Meanwhile, former state governor Bindow Jibrilla, former Adamawa central senator Abdul-Aziz Nyako, and former Adamawa north senator Elisha Abbo are all in Lawal’s side.

On the contrary, Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, has stated that he supports the organisation led by Dasin.

“It is my hope and prayer that their inauguration will strengthen our party’s structure and unify all ADC members in Adamawa state. I fully and unequivocally support this leadership as inaugurated,” Atiku wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

The Komsiri-led faction, however, criticised Lawal’s activities, claiming that his assertion that he was acting on behalf of the party’s national and zonal leadership was false.

According to reports, Aisha Binani, a former senator and member of the House of Representatives, supported the Komsiri-led leadership, which promised to respect the ADC constitution and make amends with all disgruntled members.

“I’ll reconcile aggrieved members and promote unity among all stakeholders,” Komsiri said during a media briefing held in Yola, the capital of Adamawa.

“I will supervise membership registration, mobilise massive membership and renewal exercise in the state, and prepare and conduct ward, local government, and state congresses to elect substantive executives.”

The party’s internal crisis have raised concerns among stakeholders about its readiness to challenge other political forces in the 2027 elections.
