The Cross River State Government has issued a directive requiring all civil and public servants to proceed on a 20-day end-of-year leave to allow them to participate fully in Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Head of Service, Mr. Orok Okon, issued a circular with the reference GO/HOS/4/Vol.III/277, which contained the directive and was provided to the News Agency of Nigeria.

According to the circular, employees will be on leave from December 15, 2025, to January 5, 2026, with the exception of those performing critical tasks.
It reads, “The approval is to enable Civil/Public Servants to participate in the Christmas festivities within the State fully.
“However, officers on essential duties are hereby exempted from this leave and are expected to remain at their duty posts to ensure the continuous delivery of critical public services. “Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Departments are requested to bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all staff and ensure strict compliance.”
It was learned that the Cross River state’s Christmas celebrations include Carnival Calabar, the largest street festival in Africa.
This year’s carnival is the 20th iteration of the yearly street celebration that was started in 2005 by the Donald Duke administration.
