Heavy criticism and outrage has trailed the reported rape and assault of young women during a festival in Oruamudhu community in Ozoro, Isoko north LGA of Delta state.
On Thursday, numerous videos of guys molesting young ladies in an abhorrent and animalistic way while tearing apart their clothing went viral on social media.
In one of the videos, a young woman was seen sobbing and clutching her ripped clothes while being forcefully touched by a few young men.

Similarly, in another video, a young woman riding a motorbike was attacked and fondled by many men.
According to some social media users, the festival forbids women from going outside from 12 p.m. until the next day. Additionally, some social media users asserted that because women were not allowed to attend the festival, young people in the town were responsible for turning it into a “rape event.”

Meanwhile, screenshots of messages posted to the WhatsApp community of students from Southern Delta University, Ozoro, warning female students not to step outside the community from 12pm on Thursday were spotted across social media.
Videos of the incident have sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling on security agencies to arrest the perpetrators and protect the women.

Reacting to one of the videos via X, Bright Edafe, Delta police spokesperson, described the incident as “alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing”.
Edafe revealed the Delta police commissioner has ordered a probe of the incident, while calling on witnesses to provide useful information.
