DFP Urges Ogun Ministry of Sports to Take Bold Action Against Rising Youth Drug Abuse

    The Drug Free Project (DFP) in Ogun State has called for the support of the Ministry of Sports Development in addressing the growing issue of drug abuse among youths.

    The call was made by the Team Lead of the Project, Bamidele Ifeoluwayimika, during a visit to the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.

    Bamidele explained that the purpose of the visit was to seek the Ministry’s collaboration and support, noting that it holds significant influence over the large youth population in the state.

    He noted that the Ministry was a key stakeholder and had the capacity to effectively promote its sensitisation campaign against drug abuse through strategic sports approach, stressing that the most affected population is the youth bracket.

    The DFP team Lead, explained that the drug free project is a youth led initiative, non-religious and non-governmental organisation committed to promoting awareness on the danger of drugs and also support affected individuals during rehabilitation.

    Reacting, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Olanrewaju Ogunyinka, stated that the agency was aware of the menace that drug abuse could cause, hence, the need to jointly work together to reduce substance abuse among the youths.

    Ogunyinka decried the high prevalence of drug abuse and attributed some of causal agents to poor parenting and bad influence, while directing the Director of Youth Development to closely work with the DFP in other to reduce the abuse of drugs among the youths.
