Kano State Governor, Gov Yusuf has responded to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, his estranged political mentor, over what he described as frequent attacks against him, saying his silence should not be mistaken for fear.
Speaking to party supporters during the official confirmation of Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Kano South in Rano yesterday, Governor Yusuf warned that he would begin “talking” if pushed further.
The governor’s remarks marked one of his first direct and forceful public confrontations with the Kwankwasiyya leader since their fallout earlier this year.
Gov Yusuf said, “For us, Kano peace is our priority, but if we are pushed to the wall, we will open our mouths and talk. Silence is not a sign of fear.
“Even to keep quiet is an act of worship, not because we are afraid, not because we are kids. How could a 69-year-old call a 63-year-old a kid? It is just a personal respect that you are slightly older than I am.
“However, if an old man does not respect himself and keeps quiet, the younger one will have something to say. So, we are pleading with them in the name of the Almighty and His Messenger to keep their mouths shut. Otherwise, you will hear a lot of revelations.”
Gov Yusuf’s remarks came after Kwankwaso, in an exclusive interview with Trust TV, described Yusuf’s exit from the Kwankwasiyya Movement as a serious mistake.
Furthermore, the leader of the Nigeria Democratic Coalition (NDC) boasted that the movement helped elevate his former personal aide to the position of governor.
