DSS Rearrests Malami’s Son At Kuje Prison After Attempt To Sneak Him Out

Officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly rearrested Abdulaziz, the son of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, at Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, following his father’s renewed refusal to leave the facility despite completing bail procedures.

The incident happened on Friday when Federal High Court court bailiffs showed up at the prison with completed bail paperwork to guarantee Abdulaziz’s release.

Malami allegedly demanded that his son be secretly released from prison without the customary procedures, according to sources inside the facility.

Following intelligence inputs indicating attempts to handle Abdulaziz’s release away from the public eye, security authorities were reportedly keeping an eye on every movement into and out of the prison.

Consequently, every car that left the penitentiary facility was allegedly profiled by DSS agents stationed nearby. Shortly after being turned over to those assisting in his release, Abdulaziz was intercepted and arrested again.

“This happened on Friday; the son was taken from bailiffs from the Federal High Court who brought fully processed bail papers but Malami refused to leave, urging that they sneak his son out. But the DSS profiled every car leaving and rearrested his son,” a source privy to the development said.

According to a security source with knowledge of the situation, the action is a reflection of the intelligence community’s growing discomfort with the former attorney general’s “irregular efforts” over his son’s release.
