The Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission has commenced the screening and potential confirmation of airport staff who have completed their two-year probation period, a move that has been widely welcomed by employees.

Speaking to staff at the Commission’s office in Centenary City, Abakaliki, the Chairperson, Mrs. Virginia Oketa, praised Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi for his commitment to employment and the welfare of civil servants. She highlighted the recent salary increase of ₦20,000 as a testament to his dedication.
Mrs. Oketa urged staff to keep the governor and his wife in their prayers. She also reminded them to present their original certificates for verification, emphasizing that statements of results would not be accepted.
She said the probation period is intended to assess loyalty and performance and added that appointments remain provisional until confirmation.
This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head, information department, Obinna E. l. and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.

She also urged staff to dress modestly and to conduct themselves professionally, observing that appearance influences how public servants are perceived at Okadigbo International Airport.
Following the screening, workers expressed gratitude to the governor.
Ajah Nnamdi of Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi thanked Mr Nwifuru for ensuring timely payment of salaries and for creating the pathway to confirmation. Oketa Chidimma Cheryl described the governor as the best she has encountered.
Departments screened included human resources, administration and airport operations, among others.
