Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold popularly referred to as AG baby has shared the story of his tireless work on his music career, revealing that he hasn’t taken a break since releasing his debut album.
The Afrobeats singer, who is married to fellow musician Simi, came into the music and afrobeat scene in 2014 with his hit single ‘Sade.’ The song quickly became an anthem and earned a nomination for Best Alternative Song at the 2015 Headies award.
After gaining widespread recognition, Adekunle Gold was welcomed onboard Olamide’s YBNL record label, where he released his debut album ‘Gold.’
In a recent interview and reflection on his journey, the 38-year-old singer opened up about what drives his relentless pursuit of success in the music industry.
Adekunle Gold said, “From what I can remember, there were no examples around me of what I wanted to become. I knew there was more for me to be, and I wanted it. So when I finished secondary school, the chase began.”
Adekunle Gold revealed that after the release of his debut album, he has continued to push himself as no achievement ever seemed enough.
He said, “You would think I had my hands too full for music, but a lot of my income was fueling that passion that nobody really knew I had at the time. Music was always my end game. And when I got my break, you’d think that it would be enough, but it wasn’t.
While speaking on the interview, Adekunle Gold’s four year old daughter criticized him for being too serious. The singer further admits to this allegation

Adekunle explained that he was raised in an environment where his father was strict, drawing an explanation as to why he appeared to be serious all the time.
“Her (Deja) words got me thinking; how does my four-year-old know to say this? It felt like my daughter was telling me to live a little. Many people have thrown my seriousness in my face over the years, and I have not taken it very seriously (pun intended). But to hear my daughter echo the same sentiment to me, unprovoked, it made me wonder.”
“My dad was a very strict man. He rarely laughed with us, and when he did, it felt like it was a better day than usual. I wonder if it’s genetic,” Adekunle Gold added.
