Do not call me an activist but a social media police – VeryDarKman clarifies in new video (Watch)
Popular Nigerian social activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known has Verydarkman, known for his outspoken and controversial opinions against unfair practices, has recently clarified to the public and others labeling him an “activist” that he is infact not an activist.
In an Instagram video, Verydarkman dressed in a police-style uniform featuring a customized “VDM” tag, and explained that his mission doesn’t aligns traditional activism. And instead described himself as an “online police,” committed to fighting oppression, particularly targeting vendors and individuals accused of exploitative practices.
Verydarkman also stressed that he is impartial, fair and transparent. And so, only exposes cases when enough proof is available.
He accompanied the video with the caption; “CSP VDM OF THE ONLINE DIVISION. ALSO SHOUTOUT TO THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE FOR THEIR TIRELESS EFFORTS IN FIGHTING CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA AND I IMPLORE OTHERS TO JOIN HANDS TOGETHER IN MAKING NIGERIA A BETTER PLACE.”
After the video went viral, the Nigeria Police Force released a statement this evening, October 26, 2024. Strongly condemning the unauthorized use of official uniforms and accoutrements.
In the same statement, the police force announced that it has launched a full investigation to determine the source of the Police gear used, as well as the authority under which he acted.
The statement added that the unauthorized use of Police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements constitutes a criminal offense, as stipulated in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, and is subject to strict penalties.

‘’The Nigeria Police Force strongly condemns the unauthorized use of official uniforms and accoutrements by an online personality, Mr. Martins Otse, popularly known as “VDM,” in a video posted on his social media platforms.
The Force unequivocally disassociates itself from this unauthorized portrayal and has launched a full investigation to determine the source of the Police gear used, as well as the authority under which he acted.
It is important to remind the public that the unauthorized use of Police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements constitutes a criminal offense, as stipulated in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, and is subject to strict penalties.
While the Nigeria Police Force recognizes and supports the creativity of young Nigerians in the content creation space, we strongly caution against the misuse of Police uniforms or symbols. Unauthorized use of these items undermines the values and integrity of the Force and will not be tolerated.”
