Nigerian superstar Davido has stirred up conversations after advising Americans against relocating to Africa.
The 30BG boss shared his thoughts during an appearance on The Big Homies House podcast. When asked about people leaving America to settle in Africa, the singer didn’t hold back, using Nigeria as a case study to explain why he believes it’s not the best move.
Davido painted a picture of the challenges back home. He highlighted Nigeria’s struggling economy, which he described as being “in shambles.” The singer expressed frustration over the high cost of oil, despite Nigeria being an oil-producing nation.
“Imagine producing oil but paying more for it than countries importing it,” he remarked. He also pointed to the rising exchange rate and other economic hurdles.
However, Davido didn’t focus solely on the negatives. He admitted that Africa’s entertainment industry is one of the few bright spots. “Entertainment is one of the things that’s made Africa look good,” he said, emphasizing his role as an ambassador for the continent.
The Awuke crooner clarified that while he showcases the good parts of Nigeria in his projects, the reality is much harsher than what many outsiders see.
His candid statements didn’t go unnoticed, sparking mixed reactions online. Some applauded him for being truthful. “Finally, someone is telling the truth.
People make the move and come right back,” commented one fan, @zinghamakeda. Others commended his boldness, with @livcouture_ng writing, “Davido no send anybody! He’s saying it as it is!”
Other fans appreciated how delicately he delivered his message. “You can see he tried to make Naija not look as bad as it is right now,” said @paneo_kidscloset.
Some simply agreed with his observations. “He no lie ohhh,” added @Mimi_ifechi.
While Davido’s remarks may have ruffled a few feathers, many fans believe he spoke from the heart, balancing honesty with his pride in Africa’s potential.
The debate rages on, but one thing is clear: Davido’s words have people talking—and thinking.
