“Don’t sleep”, Wizkid shares Forthcoming Album Morayo, dedicated to his late Mum

Nigerian music star Wizkid, also known as Ayodeji Balogun, recently stirred up emotions online with the cover art for his upcoming album, Morayo.

The Grammy-winning Afrobeats artist shared a close-up image of his late mother’s face, marking the album’s cover and giving fans a glimpse into just how personal this project is to him. Along with the image, Wizkid captioned it, “MORAYO Nov. 22,” hinting at the album’s release date and prompting waves of reactions across social media.

Wizkid’s mother, Jane Morayo Balogun, passed away in 2023 at the age of 66, and since then, the artist has been vocal about her significance in his life.

He revealed earlier this year that Morayo, which translates to “I See Joy” in Yoruba, is a tribute to her, stating, “My album ‘Morayo,’ dedicated to my mom, the love of my life, drops very soon. Don’t dull. Don’t sleep.”

With Morayo, fans anticipate a deeply heartfelt album that captures Wizkid’s journey through grief, healing, and the celebration of his mother’s life.

Billboard reports that Morayo will be released under Starboy/Sony Music International/RCA Records, and fans eagerly await what they expect to be a soulful mix of Afrobeats and R&B that has defined Wizkid’s global appeal.

This project holds the potential to further cement Wizkid’s influence on the international music scene, as he merges his unique sound with a deeply personal theme.

The album cover alone has sparked mixed reactions from fans and social media users. Some believe Wizkid is using his mother’s image to tug at fans’ heartstrings, with one commenting, “U want to sell the album for pity because u lost ur mama.” Others, however, appreciate the tribute, with one fan noting, “Their bond must have been so strong. I pray he heals fast. Rest on, Mummy.”

Wizkid’s emotional release has fans on edge, eagerly awaiting the album drop to experience his journey firsthand, and it’s clear that Morayo is more than music to him—it’s a tribute and an enduring symbol of his mother’s impact.
