Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder of Salvation Ministries, Port Harcourt based church in a pre Easter message to his congregation yesterday Sunday stated that poverty and Jesus Christ were not closely related.
He told his congregation while teaching on Easter and the life of Jesus that Jesus Christ never hung around with the impoverished during his earthly ministry because he detested poverty.

According to Pastor Ibiyeomie, Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection were intended to deliver believers from poverty in addition to bringing salvation.
According to him, staying impoverished after accepting Christ is a sign of a lack of spiritual insight.
Recall that the said church had made headlines after a fire incident occurred and reports that some members had allegedly beaten up the journalist who reported the fire incident.

According to Ibiyeomie, “Check your bible; Jesus never visited any poor person in his home.” Thus, he despises poverty. He went to see Lazarus, who were providing him with food and were not impoverished.
“He visited a sinner, Zacchaeus, who was rich. Tell me one poor man Jesus entered his house. He hates poverty, that’s the meaning.
“He hates people who are poor. He died for you not to be poor. How can you now come to church with some kind of mentality?

“You can come poor but you’re not permitted to remain poor. There’s nothing wrong with you coming to Christ as a poor man, but it’s wrong for you to remain poor. It is wrong” he noted.
