I don't want to die wealthy, Bill Gates reveals plans to give away all his wealth
US based billionaire philanthropist, Bill Gates has announced plans to shutter the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and donate almost all of his $200 billion fortune, keeping just 1% for himself.

In a post on his personal blog, Bill Gates Notes, the Microsoft co-founder said Thursday that the foundation, which is regarded as one of the most important charity organisations in the world, will shut down by December 31, 2045.

He said, “People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them.

“There are too many urgent problems to solve for me to hold onto resources that could be used to help people,”

Bill Gates stated in a chart included in the blog post that he intends to donate 99 percent of his fortune by 2045, leaving only 1 percent, or around $1.6 billion, for himself and his family.

In addition to helping to finance vaccine development, medical research, and emergency aid worldwide, the foundation, which was established in 2000 with his now-ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, has spent over $100 billion on global health, education, and poverty reduction.

“That is why I have decided to give my money back to society much faster than I had originally planned. I will give away virtually all my wealth through the Gates Foundation over the next 20 years to the cause of saving and improving lives around the world. And on December 31, 2045, the foundation will close its doors permanently,” he added.

Among other revelations Bill Gates made regarding the original plan of the Gates foundation, he expressed no remorse in an interview with the Associated Press on Thursday, stating that he has the same freedom to spend his money however he chooses, like any other private citizen.

“I think 20 years is the right balance between giving as much as we can to make progress on these things and giving people a lot of notice that now this money will be gone,” he said.
