N35m Bought Bobrisky VIP Life in Kirikiri – Insider
According to a traditional ruler of Lagos, personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service allegedly assisted the cross-dresser in getting VIP treatment while in prison.
Chief Babalola Shabi, or Baale No-Nonsense, the Baale of Kirikiri Town, alleged that Bobrisky smuggled in eight ATM cards into the Kirikiri custodial facility and used variations of POS operators in the vicinity to make a total transaction of N35 million, allegedly colluding with prison authorities for preferential treatment.
Shabi made the revelations during a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State Police Command on Saturday, April 5, as part of activities commemorating the National Week.
He said Bobrisky never fully served his sentence behind bars but was accommodated outside the custodial centre in a private apartment, allegedly rented for him by the corrupt correctional officers.
“Before the truth came out, everybody believed he was in Kirikiri serving his time. But the reality is that Bobrisky was living comfortably outside the prison walls, thanks to a criminal collaboration of some officials,” he said.
Shabi stated that he facilitated the unearthing of the scandal, saying that he summoned all POS operators in the communit and called in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
“I personally called in the EFCC after I summoned the POS operators to my palace. From there, they were able to trace the transactions and decode the money trail,” he said.
The traditional ruler explained that the arrangement involved correctional officers approaching POS vendors to withdraw funds from the crossdresser’s ATM cards.
He explained that how the money was accessed without hindrance signified that this was an organized ring of collaborators.
“It was shocking how N35 million could be sourced from around here so quickly. Clearly, this was not a one-man job. The officials who aided him have been suspended,” Shabi added.
He added that the property where Bobrisky was rumored to have resided during that time had since been located and torn down, and that both the DSS and the EFCC had interrogated him concerning this matter.
“The DSS first invited me for questioning; I told them everything I knew. The EFCC also reached out and I gave them full cooperation.
As a community leader, I cannot allow this type of impunity to go unchecked,” he said.
His narrative contradicts an earlier report made by a National Assembly panel which stated that Bobrisky enjoyed very preferential treatment but remained within the confines of the prison for the duration of his incarceration.
