The Police Command of Oyo State has reported arraigning before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ibadan, the former queen of Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola and others.
Recall that on Thursday, December 19, 2024, the police arrested the ex-queen and seven others over the stampede at the funfair that left not less than 35 people mostly children dead at the Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan.
According to sources, in the course of the evening of Monday night, five out of the 8 suspects were released, while the others, including the erstwhile wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola; Oriyomi Hamzat, owner of Agidigbo FM, an Ibadan-based radio station; and the principal of the said school, Fasasi Abdulahi were arraigned in court on Tuesday, December 24, 2024.
Among those released from custodial detention is Genesis Christopher, 24; Tanimowo Moruf, 52; Anisolaja Olabode, 42; Idowu Ibrahim, 35; and Abiola Oluwatimilehin, 25. The sources confirmed that all five regained their freedom on Monday.
According to scources who confided with Naijaeyes the aforementioned trio of suspects were remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre by the Court.
It was gathered that Oriyomi, who was among the arraigned suspects, was arrested on his hospital bed.
