Portabale’s assault case: Court postpones hearing.
An Abeokuta Magistrate’s court has postponed the case against popular musician Habeeb Okikiola also known as Portable to March 26. This delay allows the prosecution to combine his charges with those of his workers.
When the case resumed on Wednesday following his initial arraignment on February 20, the prosecution argued that handling Portable’s case separately from his workers would be wasteful to court’s time.
Senior State Counsel, Mr. Timileyin Oredein informed the court that Portable’s case was linked to another, requiring consolidation before the trial could commence.
Oredein informed the court that the musician and nine of his workers had previously been arraigned on February 6 for similar charges.
Portable and his workers faced a five court charge, including conspiracy, assault and unlawful obstruction while armed with cutlasses and a gun as well as engaging in conduct likely to disturb public peace.
Additionally, they were charged with allegedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
