Transforming Nigeria’s Digital Landscape
Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026, LG3 is the first phase of Equinix’s ambitious $100 million investment plan across the continent over the next two years. The facility promises to deliver world-class infrastructure that empowers Nigerian businesses to scale operations and attract international companies seeking a reliable gateway to West Africa. By integrating Equinix Fabric, the site will enable businesses to securely connect their physical and virtual infrastructure to cloud service providers and partners across the globe.
Wole Abu, Managing Director for West Africa at Equinix, highlighted the significance of this development: “LG3 represents a major step in our mission to bridge Africa’s digital divide. Lagos, with its wealth of talent and innovation, is poised to become a central hub for cloud technologies, AI, and the next wave of startups. This data centre is more than bricks and servers—it’s about nurturing growth, innovation, and a truly interconnected African economy.”
Olawale Owoeye, Managing Director at Cedarview, echoed this enthusiasm: “The LG3 data centre provides the robust and resilient platform that businesses need to expand their digital footprint. Access to a global ecosystem ensures high-performance solutions for our customers, keeping us at the forefront of digital connectivity in Africa.”

Africa’s Rising Digital Potential
Nigeria, Africa’s second-largest economy, has been steadily emerging as a tech powerhouse. With a young, tech-savvy population and Lagos ranked as the only African city in the Global Top 100 Startup Ecosystems, the country presents a fertile ground for digital expansion. Equinix’s investment comes at a time when Africa’s digital transformation is accelerating, fuelled by rising internet penetration and increasing demand for secure data infrastructure.
Aslıhan Güreşcier, Vice President of EMEA Growth & Emerging Markets at Equinix, noted: “Africa’s digital journey is gathering momentum. By opening LG3, we are proud to support regional growth, delivering reliable data centres that power everything from banking and education to emergency services and commerce.”
Since entering Africa in 2022, Equinix has expanded in key markets including Nigeria, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire. The opening of LG3 builds on the company’s recent Johannesburg facility in South Africa, reinforcing Equinix’s global footprint and enhancing the continent’s access to sustainable, carrier-neutral infrastructure.
Equinix Fabric and Global Connectivity
At the heart of LG3 is Equinix Fabric, a cutting-edge Network-as-a-Service platform offering private, secure, on-demand connectivity across hybrid multicloud environments. This platform allows seamless integration between data centres, cloud, and on-premises infrastructure, backed by a resilient 100+ Gbps network. With thousands of partners and over 220 hyperscalers, Equinix Fabric facilitates low-latency connections, simplified network management, and rapid scalability, empowering businesses to innovate efficiently and cost-effectively.
LG3’s strategic location also leverages Nigeria’s position as an international hub for subsea cable connections, linking the continent with Europe, Asia, and beyond. This connectivity not only strengthens local business ecosystems but also positions Lagos as a gateway for global enterprises looking to establish a presence in Africa.

Sustainability and Responsible Investment
Equinix is committed to responsible operations that prioritise sustainability and energy efficiency. Across all sites, including LG3, the company implements measures to minimise environmental impact while delivering world-class service. By combining global expertise with local knowledge, Equinix aims to create data centres that are both high-performing and environmentally conscious, supporting Nigeria’s broader digital and economic ambitions.
The LG3 data centre is set to become a cornerstone of Africa’s digital infrastructure, opening new opportunities for businesses, fostering innovation, and strengthening Nigeria’s role on the global technology stage. With Equinix’s continued investment and expertise, the country is poised to lead a new era of interconnected digital growth across the continent.
