Diezani Alison-Madueke attended this week’s preliminary procedures, which included technological issues and jury selection, according to AFP.

From 2010 until 2015, Diezani Alison-Madueke served as both the first female president of the international oil cartel OPEC and the first female oil minister in Nigeria.

The UK’s National Crime Agency formally charged her in 2023 with taking bribes between 2011 and 2015.

“We suspect Diezani Alison-Madueke abused her power in Nigeria and accepted financial rewards for awarding multi-million-pound contracts,” the NCA said at the time.

The former OPEC president received at least £100,000 ($134,000) in cash, chauffeur-driven vehicles, private jet trips, and the use of several London apartments, according to the indictment.

The allegations also listed monetary benefits, such as gifts from upscale retailers like Louis Vuitton, furnishings, staff and restoration work for the houses, and payment for private school fees.

The experiment is anticipated to start on Monday, January 26 and run for ten to twelve weeks.

Olatimbo Ayinde, who was present in the dock, and Doye Agama, who appeared in court via video connection on Monday, are also being prosecuted on bribery accusations related to the case.
