Kabiru Turaki, a former minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, has been chosen to serve as the Peoples Democratic Party’s(PDP) next national chairman.
At the party’s national convention in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Saturday night, Senator Ben Obi, a former lawmaker who represented Anambra Central in the National Assembly, declared his election.
Obi clarified that Turaki ran unopposed following the withdrawal of Lado Danmarke, the party’s nominee for Katsina State governor in 2023.

He pointed out that Turaki received 1,516 votes to become chairman, but Danmarke still received 275 votes from delegates despite his withdrawal.
Tutaki’s appointment comes as Damgum was officially ratified as the PDP substantive national chairman and the Ibadan convention.
The former lawmaker disclosed that a total of 1,834 votes were cast, out of which 43 were voided.
“It is therefore clear from the votes cast that Taminu Turaki has won the position of National Chairman of the PDP with a total of 1,516 votes,” he declared.

Obi also declared that Solarin Sunday Adekunle, who received 633 votes, had been elected Deputy National Organising Secretary.
While 17 other posts were uncontested and their nominees were elected again, the roles of National Youth Leader and Deputy National Legal Advisor were resigned.
According to Obi, 2,745 delegates were accredited out of the 3,131 delegates who took part in the activity.

Governors present at the PDP convention included Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau).
However, Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba) were absent.
