A suspected double bomb explosion rocked Maiduguri on Monday evening, hitting the popular Monday Market and the entrance gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital shortly after iftar at about 7:20 p.m.
The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth Daso, through a post on his X account.
In the statement, he explained that security agencies swiftly responded after receiving reports of the suspected explosions at Monday Market and the UMTH gate around 7:20 p.m. He added that joint security personnel and emergency responders have since been deployed to the affected locations, while the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit from Base 13 Maiduguri is currently on the ground handling the situation.
