Mohammed Ma’aji, a Nigerian military colonel, has been reported to be the mastermind behind the foiled coup aimed at toppling President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Recall that there was an attempted coup in the country in October 2025, creating tension across the country.

On Monday, January 26, the Defence Headquarters acknowledged that roughly sixteen military officers plotted to topple the existing administration, despite earlier denials by the authorities.
The panel established to look into the case produced a list of 16 charged officers on Monday, with Colonel M. A. Ma’aji ranking first.

This supported previous claims that Ma’aji was the leader of the abortive coup.
