BREAKING: FG declares Thursday, Friday public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr celebrations

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to commemorate the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

This was announced in a statement on X by he Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

FG declares public holiday for Eid-el-fitr

In a statement released on Tuesday, Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s permanent secretary, sent Muslims a hearty congratulations on successfully completing the fasting period.

Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice, which were emphasised during the holy month of Ramadan.

Additionally, he urged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s continuing peace, unity, and prosperity during the holiday season.

In addition to wishing Muslims a happy Eid-el-Fitr, the minister urged people to celebrate sensibly and show compassion to those who are less fortunate.
