The Federal Government has declared that starting with the 2026–2027 school year, all public and private schools will not be allowed to admit or transfer pupils into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3 class).
The notice, which was signed by Boriowo Folasade, the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, stated that the directive was a component of initiatives to stop test fraud and rebuild Nigeria’s educational system’s reputation.

“The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has announced a nationwide prohibition on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3 class) in all public and private secondary schools,” the statement read.
The ministry claims that the policy was implemented in response to growing concerns about the rise of misconduct, particularly the usage of “special centres” for external exams.
It clarified that only Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) will now be eligible for admissions and transfers. The ministry declared that “admission or transfer into SS3 class will no longer be permitted under any circumstances.”

According to officials, the action aims to provide appropriate academic supervision, discourage students from moving at the last minute for exam-related advantages, and encourage continuity in teaching and learning.
School proprietors, principals, and administrators nationwide have been directed to comply fully with the policy.

The ministry stressed that any violation would attract sanctions in line with existing education regulations and guidelines.
Reaffirming government’s commitment, the statement added: “The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining academic standards, promoting fairness, and restoring credibility to public examinations across the country.”
