Tinubu: Presidency dismisses El-Rufai’s allegations as baseless, ridiculous

Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s special assistant on communications and strategy, has tackled Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, stating that his claims and comments about President Tinubu was off the mark and baseless.

On Saturday, el-Rufai issued a warning stating that if Nigerians do not band together against Tinubu in the 2027 polls, he may try to hold onto power like Paul Biya of Cameroon.

According to Onanuga’s Sunday post on X, el-Rufai has been circulating “unfounded claims and speculations” regarding Mr. President.

El-Rufai, he claimed, appears to have recognised the pointlessness of his new party colleagues’ attempts to thwart the President’s reelection initiative.

According to Onanuga, it is “a mission doomed to fail” and the “plot is proving to be unattainable.”

He added that el-Rufai was unsettled by the “grand reception” the President received during his visit to Kaduna last Friday.

Onanuga further claimed that the demonstration of support refuted el-Rufai’s assertion that the president has been deserted by the north.

“Instead, he resorted to spreading further unfounded stories, including the claim that President Tinubu intends to become a ‘life president’ after 2027 — a speculation that is baseless and absurd,” Onanuga wrote.

“President Tinubu is a democrat who does not intend to stay in office beyond May 28, 2031, when re-elected in 2027.”
