Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs, has officially resigned from his position.
In a statement released on Monday, Alkasim Abdulkadir, Tuggar’s special assistant for media and communications strategy, announced the minister’s resignation.
According to NaijaEyes, the minister is anticipated to run for governor of Bauchi state in the 2027 elections.

According to Abdulkadir, Tuggar’s resignation follows President Bola Tinubu’s recent order and submitted his resignation letter to the officer of the secretary to the government of the federation (OSGF).
Tuggar was quoted to have appreciated Tinubu for the opportunity given to him to serve the country.
“Ambassador Tuggar also expressed his sincere appreciation to the management and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as members of the diplomatic community, for their cooperation and support throughout his tenure,” the statement reads.

“During his time in office, the Minister demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.
“His tenure was marked by several notable achievements, advancing people-centred diplomacy through humanitarian evacuations, scholarship facilitation, and sustained support for Nigerians abroad, enhancing diaspora engagement, including the development of a structured Nigerians-in-Diaspora database to deepen national participation.

“His tenure will be remembered for promoting regional and security cooperation and the formation of the Regional Partnership for democracy.

“Driving economic diplomacy by positioning Nigeria as an attractive destination for foreign investment, particularly in the energy sector.”
that Tuggar is anticipated to run for the governorship of Bauchi state in the 2027 elections, according to earlier sources.
Tinubu recently ordered all political appointees who wanted to run for office in 2027 to step down by March 31, 2026, at the latest.
