Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has announced his intention to run for governor of Katsina State in the 2027 election, citing concerns over the current administration’s handling of security and governance.

In a Tuesday interview with DCL Hausa, Lawal Daura revealed that he has concluded consultations on the party platform he plans to contest under and will disclose it in due course.
He also criticised the incumbent government, questioning the rationale behind seeking re-election after what he described as a record of underperformance.
Using a metaphor, Daura said leaders should step aside when they can no longer manage responsibilities effectively.
“It is like putting a load on somebody and adjusting it. If he complains that the load is too heavy, you have to take it down to avoid destroying fragile items.

“For the current administration, we can say thank you for your efforts, but you should take a break because you can’t continue,” he added.
Reflecting on his entry into politics, he admitted that contesting was unexpected.
“I never saw myself coming out to contest. I have always participated from behind the scenes,” Lawal Daura said.
