The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has lost his mother, Hajiya Umma, who passed away on Friday.
Bashir, El-Rufai’s son, posted on his verified X handle on Friday night to confirm his father’s release.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. From Allah SWT we came, and to Him we shall all return. I would like to inform the public of the demise of my grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who passed away a few hours ago,” the post read.
The dead was reportedly dealing with age-related health issues that had gotten worse recently.
Her condition reportedly deteriorated further after she learned of her son’s detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
According to the family, the former governor had been closely monitoring his mother’s health before she passed away.
Meanwhile, prominent Nigerians have honoured the late Hajiya, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
According to reports, Hajiya was around 100 years old.
As of the time of filing this report, details of Hajiya El-Rufai’s burial arrangements had yet to be announced.
