Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday attended a special church service to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance and celebration Day at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt.
Along with other high-profile government officials, the governor was accompanied by Professor Ngozi Odu, his deputy.

This appearance marked the governor’s first public outing and that of his Deputy since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against the governor on Thursday.
Political tension in the state has increased as a result of this most recent incident, which is the third effort to remove Governor Fubara from office in less than three years.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service was held to give honour to Nigerian military personnel who died while serving their country and protecting its unity and sovereignty.
Additionally, prayers were said for the safety and security of those presently serving in the armed services as well as for the resting place of the souls of the fallen heroes.
Recall that the Defence Headquarters has formally announced the renaming of the January 15 observance as “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day,” replacing the former “Armed Forces Remembrance Day.”

Governor Fubara and his administration have not responded to the State House of Assembly’s accusations of egregious misbehaviour, despite increased political pressure.
