Ganduje made the remarks on Friday in Abuja during the 10th anniversary documentary premiere of Let’s Talk Humanity, an organisation dedicated to supporting education for the deaf and blind.

He said many persons with disabilities are being pushed to the margins of society, with limited access to support systems, a situation he believes is forcing some into street begging for survival.

According to him, “In the North, persons with disabilities are relegated to the background, which is why we see a large number of beggars across the region day and night.”

He emphasized that with stronger investment in inclusive education, vocational training, and assistive technologies, many PWDs could become self-reliant and contribute positively to society rather than depend on begging.

Ganduje also urged governments, development partners, and individuals to prioritize disability inclusion, noting that empowering PWDs would help reduce poverty and address wider social challenges in the region.
