Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed Dr. Aminu Garba Magashi as Co-Chair of the Kano State Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force.
The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the appointment underscores the state government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with civil society organisations, public health professionals and other key stakeholders in tackling the growing problem of substance abuse, especially among young people.
Governor Yusuf said the decision forms part of his administration’s broader efforts to build a safer and healthier society by addressing the underlying causes of drug abuse.
He expressed confidence that Dr. Magashi’s wealth of experience and dedication to public service would enhance the work of the Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force and reinforce the government’s campaign against substance abuse across the state.
The governor also disclosed plans to establish a mobile court to accelerate the prosecution of drug-related offences and other social crimes.
According to him, the proposed mobile court is intended to ensure the speedy administration of justice, strengthen law enforcement efforts and serve as a deterrent to individuals involved in drug-related crimes.
Kano State has in recent years intensified efforts to combat the growing problem of drug abuse, particularly among young people, through a combination of law enforcement, public awareness campaigns and rehabilitation initiatives. The state government has repeatedly described substance abuse as a major social challenge linked to crime, youth unemployment and mental health concerns. As part of its response, the administration has continued to engage government institutions, civil society organisations, health professionals and community leaders to strengthen prevention, treatment and enforcement measures aimed at reducing drug-related offences across the state.
