Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke met with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja on Thursday following his recent reelection.
A photograph of the meeting, shared on X by Wike’s media aide Lere Olayinka, showed Adeleke and the FCT minister shaking hands while displaying the governor’s certificate of return.
Olayinka captioned the photo: “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”
The meeting occurred just hours after the governor held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
Around 5:20–5:25 p.m., Adeleke arrived at the Villa dressed in traditional attire, accompanied by National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu and several Osun State officials, including his chief of staff and campaign director-general.
During the meeting, the governor presented his certificate of return and expressed gratitude for the conduct of the August 15 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party banner, the winner after he secured 511,067 votes.
Following his meeting with the President, Adeleke delivered a brief statement to State House correspondents, emphasizing that Tinubu deserved praise for allowing the electoral process to play out without interference.
“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.
“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria,” the governor said.
Tinubu Urges Adeleke Not To Shame His Opponents
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has urge Governor Ademola Adeleke to refrain from embarrassing his rivals in the state’s most recent election for governor.
He believes that no one deserves the joy and laughter of democracy if they do not celebrate a free and fair election.
“Don’t stigmatise any of your opponents,” he told the governor. “And the people of Osun State pronounced their judgment on you that they love you, they want you to govern. So you’re going back to govern.
“Anybody, any democrat, anybody in the political environment who cannot celebrate the joy of a free and fair election does not deserve the laughter and the happiness of democracy.
“Don’t make a single individual a victim of your campaign. Don’t. Not for you alone; not for the sake of Osun alone, for the generations to come. It’s more important for you to build a network of unity.
“As I said, you did not conquer anybody. You won an election. That is the essence of democracy. I’m so happy that we have this talk,” Tinubu added.
