Federal government to enforce strict migration policies from August 1

    The federal govt of Nigeria has disclosed that it will begin strong enforcement against undocumented immigrants in Nigeria no later than August 1.

    This was revealed by Olubunmi Tunji- Ojo, the minister of interior during a meeting with the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association in Abuja .

    Ojo stated that a 90 days leniency period will be granted from May 1 to July 31 after which the new expatriate administration policies will be implemented. He added that the 90 days period was to enable immigrants legalise their status in the country before the enforcement begins.

    He stated that the government will no longer tolerate companies that obstruct the immigration services and its duties, issuing a stern warning.

    He said ” The days when some companies irresponsibly evade immigration laws are over. The immigration service has a mandate and they must be allowed to execute it . Any attempt to hinder their operations will face strict sanctions”

    The Minister of interior further highlighted that the present service charge fees were no longer feasible and have been reviewed.

    ” We have agreed on an adjustment to fees for citizenship and business -related applications. A finalised breakdown will soon be officially released and signed by both the ministry and NECA.

    “The revised fee structure and expatriate administration system will take effect from May 1 alongside the immigration amnesty programme. However, starting August 1, the government will commence full enforcement against irregular migrants.
