The former Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa, has been elected as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, following the party’s state congress to elect new executive members, with his earlier resignation accepted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which cleared the way for his emergence.

The election, held on Tuesday night, saw Doguwa emerge as chairman after he resigned from his commissioner position to contest for the party’s top state role.
His resignation was earlier accepted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, clearing the way for his participation in the party’s internal electoral process.
With Doguwa’s elections and Governor Yusuf close allies as state party officials, the Governor has consolidated his firm control of the party in Kano, while Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate having the Vice Chairman, Gwangwazo in his control.
Similarly, former National Chairman of the APC, Dr Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, has his supporters been fully entrenched in the party state leadership.
Other officials elected during the exercise include Salisu Maje-Gwangwazo as Deputy Chairman, Prof. Yusuf Sabo-Bichi as State Secretary, and Fatima Dala as State Woman Leader.

The newly constituted executive committee comprises 28 members, who are expected to strengthen the party’s internal cohesion and reposition it ahead of future political engagements in the state.
Party stakeholders at the event described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, expressing optimism that the new leadership would consolidate on existing structures and promote unity among members across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
Doguwa, in his acceptance remarks, pledged to work with all party stakeholders to ensure inclusiveness and grassroots mobilization, while preparing the party for upcoming political activities in the state.
