32 governors, 8,450 delegates arrive Abuja for APC convention

32 state governors, 8,453 delegates from all over the nation, President Bola Tinubu, and members of his cabinet are anticipated to attend the APC Convention 2026, which is to hold today Friday, March 27 and Saturday in Abuja.

Top party leaders from the national, zonal, state, and ward levels will also be present at the convention, when new party leaders will be chosen.

This was disclosed on Thursday during the APC World Media Briefing at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja by Mohammed Idris, Co-Chairman of the Convention’s Media Subcommittee and Minister of Information and National Orientation.

Eagle square set for APC Convention 2026

Those in attendance include the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Pius Ayim, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee; Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga; and other top party chieftains.

Idris explained that the APC convention themed, ‘Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,’ succinctly captures the party’s identity, its journey so far, and future direction.

He stated, “The convention hopes to bring together delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to a new set of party executives, presenting both decision-making platforms and also a moment of reflection, consolidation, and direction-setting for the next phase of our journey.

“We are expecting a total of 8,453 delegates. These are the delegates that we are expecting to come from across the 36 states of the Federation to Abuja.

The minister stressed that the APC would continue to be a broad-based political platform that accommodates different points of view while maintaining unity of purpose, pointing out that this diversity is a strength rooted in commitment to advancement and national development.

Former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, the chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, noted in his speech that the party runs in accordance with its zoning arrangements and affirmed that they were unaware of any litigation impeding the convention.

Meanwhile, as party leaders, delegates, and supporters from all over the nation flock to Eagle Square today, the Federal Government has ordered public personnel employed by the Federal Secretariat in Abuja to work from home.

Party officials are anticipated to discuss internal issues and set the tone for upcoming political actions, such as getting ready for the general elections in 2027, during this important occasion.

The government clarified that the utilisation of Eagle Square for the APC convention made the step necessary.

“All Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies and Offices located within the Federal Secretariat, Phases I, II & III are hereby informed of the closure of all access roads leading to and around the said Federal Secretariat Complex, from Friday, 27th to Saturday, 28th March, 2026,” the statement read.
