The Greater Lagos Fiesta, which was supposed to happen on December 31, 2025, has been formally cancelled by the Lagos State Government.
Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Governor’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu accepted the cancellation and encouraged locals to use the time originally reserved for the Greater Lagos Fiesta (Countdown 2026) for introspection and prayers for Lagos State, Nigeria, and its citizens.

Lagos residents were urged by the governor to offer prayers for the state’s sustained prosperity, good leadership, peace, productivity, and general well-being.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence for the upcoming year, characterising it as one full of promise for both Lagos State and the nation at large, while wishing locals a happy and prosperous 2026.
