Gunmen have abducted Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and APC governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, in Ibadan.

The incident reportedly occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as Mrs. John-Paul was taking the children to school.

The family confirmed the abduction in a statement issued by Chief Adelabu’s Media Aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro.

According to the family, Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of five children born to Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

Reports indicate that she retired voluntarily last year from her positions at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before relocating to Ibadan with her children. She was also said to be making plans to reunite with her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.

According to the statement, security and law enforcement agencies were immediately notified following the abduction.

“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement read.

Efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and to apprehend those responsible for what the family described as a “heinous crime”.

Adelabu family reacts

Meanwhile, Chief Adelabu and the family said they are “deeply distressed” by the development. However, they expressed confidence in the ability of security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her sons.

They appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid speculation or the spread of unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing operations. “We also solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period,” the family added.

The statement further appealed to the public to report any useful information to the nearest police station or security agencies. As of the time of reporting this, the police have yet to issue any statement on the incident.

Oyo schoolchildren abduction

This comes weeks after terrorists invaded the Oriire community in the Ogbomosho area of Oyo State, killing a teacher and kidnapping about 45 pupils and teachers.

The terrorists have since beheaded a teacher Micheal Adedokun, and threatened to kill more if the government tries to use force to rescue the victims.
