Suspected thugs ambushed the Chief of Staff’s convoy to Anambra State Governor, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, along the Amansea–Ufuma Road, killing two police officers.
The attack, which happened on Sunday night at around 8:30 p.m., has prompted increased security measures throughout the state.
The attack claimed the lives of two police officers and injured a number of citizens involved, but the top government figure escaped unscathed.
Responding, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed all tactical formations and operational units to track down, identify, and arrest the perpetrators within 48 hours.
Meanwhile, senior officers and chiefs of tactical units received a briefing on the urgency of the situation during an emergency security meeting at the State Police Command Headquarters, where authorities issued the directive.
In addition, Orutugu declared that the attack would not go unpunished and described it as a direct assault on the authority of the state.
Furthermore, he warned that criminal elements would no longer be allowed to carry out violent attacks in the state under the cover of darkness.
He said, “This kind of killing cannot happen under my watch. We must bring the perpetrators to justice and put an end to their activities.”
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially while travelling along vulnerable routes.
