A rainstorm accompanied with heavy downpour on Tuesday afternoon destroyed parts of the yet-to-be-functioning Kugbo bus terminal in Abuja.
Sections of the terminal’s roof were blown off across the Kugbo axis of the Abuja-Keffi motorway by the intense downpour that began about 3:30 pm.
In a video footage spotted by NaijaEyes on social media, debris from the bus terminal were seen spreading unto the express, with some causing visible damage to vehicles.

Witnesses reported heavy traffic on both sides of the dual carriageway as a result of the scenario. On both sides of the road, scavengers were observed taking away precious pieces of the damaged roof and other accessories that were lying around despite the rain.
In June 2025, three newly constructed bus terminals were opened, including the Kugbo bus terminal.

Following the incident, many commuters were left stranded due to heavy traffic caused by the destruction.
Reacting to the incident, in a brief statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike stated thus: “From preliminary reports, no one was injured, and no vehicle was damaged.

“To prevent breakdown of law and order, as well as free flow of traffic, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has directed that security men be deployed to the scene, while immediate action will be taken towards fixing the damages caused by the windstorm.”
