Steven Kefas, an activist, has described how El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, allegedly kidnapped and unlawfully arrested him in 2019.
In a message posted on his X account on Saturday, Kefas described how plainclothes police officers he says were sent by El-Rufai reportedly hunted him down, kidnapped him, and unlawfully imprisoned him.
He claimed that after following him from Port Harcourt, El-Rufai’s men detained him without a warrant. He claims that the authorities grabbed his phones right away so he couldn’t make any calls.

“They also instructed the Mini Okoro Police Station, where I was detained, not to allow anyone to see or speak with me,” Kefas said.
He went on to say that about eight o’clock at night, he begged a policewoman, whom he described as elderly and kind, to assist him in getting in touch with his family, and that’s when things changed.
“Kefas said the officer used her personal phone to call his brother, a move he believes saved his life and prevented what he described as a “Dadiyata model” outcome.
Kefas further alleged that when the officers returned around 5 a.m. on May 9, 2019, to transport him to Kaduna State, they appeared surprised to discover that news of his abduction had spread across the media.
The activist claimed that he later had a difficult time while in custody, adding that specifics of his experiences there would be revealed later.

His disclosure follows El-Rufai’s recent accusations of a kidnapping plot at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. According to El-Rufai, the incumbent governor of the state, Uba Sani, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, met and decided on his abduction.
