The Senate President Akpabio made the comment during Tuesday’s plenary while reading a letter announcing the defection of Abia South senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, who reportedly moved from the ADC to the Labour Party.
Earlier reports indicated that former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso had also left the ADC for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), further intensifying political realignments.
Reacting to the ongoing defections, Akpabio questioned the frequency of party switching among lawmakers and political actors, suggesting that the trend had become excessive.

“I think the ADC is dead,” he said.
“How many times are you defecting? In a month? Three times? Let us properly compile the list so it doesn’t look like a daily ritual.”
He further urged that records of defections be properly documented across all political parties to maintain clarity.
“Compile the names of those defecting from all political parties and their destinations. If you are moving from ADC, write all of you. If you are entering NDC, write all of you. If you are going to Accord, also document it,” he added.
