The United Kingdom has turned down a request from the Nigerian government to allow former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu to be transferred to Nigeria to serve the remainder of his prison term.

Ike Ekweremadu is currently incarcerated in a UK facility after being convicted in 2023 for attempting to harvest the kidney of a young man.

He was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison following the high-profile organ-trafficking case, which attracted widespread international attention.
With the latest decision, Ekweremadu will remain in the UK to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
