The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced uploading of election results for the FCT Council polls on the commission’s results viewing portal (IReV).
As of 9:04 p.m., Channels Television’s checks revealed that, just hours after INEC held the polls, the results from polling places in the FCT’s six local councils had begun to come in.
The Kwali chairmanship election results are 56.72% complete as of Saturday at 9:04 p.m.
65.68 percent of the Gwagwalada area council chairmanship seat has been uploaded.
Apart from results for the councillorship and the chairmanship posts in the FCT, INEC is also uploading results of the Kano and Rivers State bye-elections on the IReV portal.
Joash Amupitan, the chairman of INEC, had earlier reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to post the election results on the IReV.
While observing the drill, Amupitan told reporters that the development complies with the laws of the nation.
The legal expert praised INEC personnel for distributing election materials ahead of schedule. The elections have been peaceful throughout the FCT, he stated.
According to him, the credibility of the FCT area council elections will boost confidence in grassroots democracy, particularly as the nation prepares for the general election in 2027.
