Reports have confirmed that some unidentified miscreants attempted to set an INEC building on fire just days before the FCT Councils’ elections which is set to take place on February 21.
The INEC office building, which is under renovation was reportedly targeted yesterday, February 19.

Police in the Abaji division were said to have been notified that some unidentified individuals were trying to set the structure on fire at around 7:30 a.m. today.
The fire was put out as soon as the police patrol squad arrived on the site.
According to the police, “From on-the-spot assessment of the location, foul play is suspected as the building is still under renovation.”

“The contractor is yet to meet the project deadline,” the police added.
“It is of note that the office is empty and not the one in use.
“Main INEC office remains safe and secure.”

Additionally, the police assured that “armed personnel are on ground maintaining large and order and the situation is being closely monitored.”
At the time of report, no suspects had been arrested in line with the incident.
