The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, Mutiu Agboke, has called for stronger collaboration between the commission and security agencies in the state.
Agboke made the appeal on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the INEC Ondo management team to heads of security agencies in Akure.
While meeting with the Ondo State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Sagiru Samaila, he emphasized that enhanced cooperation is crucial as preparations ramp up for the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
“INEC and security agencies must work closely together. Strengthening our existing collaboration with the DSS is essential, especially as we prepare for the upcoming by-election,” Agboke said.

In response, Samaila welcomed the initiative and assured the commission of the DSS’s readiness to provide adequate security before, during, and after the election.
During a separate visit to the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Agboke reiterated the need for sustained inter-agency cooperation.
He also used the opportunity to announce the commencement of Phase III of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is set to begin on May 11, 2026.
The Ondo State Comptroller of NCoS, Charles Oyewole, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting INEC whenever necessary.
